European Maritime Finance Names Four LR2 Tankers in a Single Day at Daehan Shipbuilding
South Korea, January 14, 2025 – European Maritime Finance (EMF) marked a milestone in maritime history by naming four new LR2 115,000 DWT tankers at the Daehan Shipbuilding Yard in South Korea. The vessels, Stavanger Star, Oslo Star, Copenhagen Star, and Athenian Star, represent the latest addition to EMF’s fleet in collaboration with long-term partner Atlas Maritime Ltd.
The name-giving ceremony, a revered maritime tradition, celebrates the formal christening of a vessel and its readiness for service. Typically, the event features the symbolic breaking of a champagne bottle against the ship's hull, a gesture believed to bring good fortune to the vessel and its crew. Ship godmothers, company executives, and industry leaders attend these ceremonies, underscoring their significance within the shipping community.
The four vessels, with hull numbers 5090, 5091, 5092, and 5093, are built to IMO A-rated and ECO-class standards, aligning with the highest benchmarks for sustainability and operational efficiency.
The ceremony was a resounding success, drawing partners, investors, Clarksons brokers, bankers, and other associates to Daehan Shipbuilding to celebrate this achievement.
“European Maritime Finance is proud of our long-term partnerships with Daehan Shipbuilding, Atlas Maritime Ltd., and Clarksons to deliver these state-of-the-art vessels that meet high standards of sustainability and innovation,” said Martin Haugaard, Founder, CEO of EMF (Schweiz) AG, and Chairman of the Investment Committee.
The event also included a warm acknowledgment of the vessels' new crews and their godmothers, who play a symbolic role in the ships' journeys.
The delivery of these four tankers underscores EMF’s commitment to sustainable shipping and innovation, further strengthening its position as a leader in maritime finance and operations.
