Venture Global Receives Non-FTA Export Authorization for CP2 LNG

On March 19, 2025, Venture Global LNG achieved a significant milestone as the U.S. Department of Energy granted approval for its CP2 LNG project to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) to countries without free trade agreements (non-FTA) with the United States.

Located in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, the CP2 LNG project is Venture Global's third major initiative, following the operational successes of Calcasieu Pass and Plaquemines LNG facilities. The authorization permits CP2 LNG to export up to 3.96 billion cubic feet per day of LNG, positioning it among the largest export facilities in the nation.

This approval is part of the broader strategy to enhance U.S. energy exports. Since taking office, the administration has lifted previous restrictions on new export permits, emphasizing the importance of energy dominance and global energy security.

Venture Global has already secured 20-year sales and purchase agreements for the initial phase of CP2 LNG with industry leaders such as ExxonMobil, Chevron, JERA, New Fortress Energy, INPEX, China Gas, SEFE, and EnBW. The company is actively negotiating for the remaining capacity and has commenced significant off-site construction in anticipation of final regulatory approvals.

The CP2 LNG project is expected to play a crucial role in bolstering the U.S. economy, improving the balance of trade, and enhancing global energy security by providing allies with reliable American LNG for decades to come.
